Essay

The thesis deals with a topical issue – clinical characteristics, prevention and treatment of dental caries of children with infantile cerebral palsy. The literature review conducted is indicative of unsatisfactory stomatological status of children with organic lesions of the nervous system which requires new approaches to diagnostics, treatment and prevention depending on severity of the underlying disease. An urgent necessity to treat stomatological pathology requires intensified and purposeful preventive and restorative dental procedures for the given group of children, training of dentists and medical staff, establishment of specialized institutions of dental care, since chewing, swallowing and complete cleaning of the oral cavity is an extremely difficult task for children with pronounced mental and motor disorders. Objective of the study is to improve effectiveness of prevention and treatment of dental caries in children with infantile cerebral palsy by means of development of a complex of therapeutic-preventive measures on the basis of determining the leading risk factors promoting occurrence of main stomatological diseases. Tasks of the study: 1. To assess condition of the dental hard tissues in children suffering from infantile cerebral palsy (ICP) applying modern indicators of stomatological health. To find regularities of clinical course of caries depending on the intensity of the underlying disease. 2. To determine the state of individual care of the oral cavity in children with ICP and causative factors. 3. To examine leading risk factors promoting development of dental caries in this group of children. 4. To develop mathematical models to forecast occurrence and development of dental caries in children with ICP. 5. To develop a complex of therapeutic and preventive measures concerning occurrence of caries in children with ICP depending on neurological deficiency and assess its efficacy.
