Essay

The use of transmedia technology can be aimed at increasing the target audience and the number of active users who are ready to create their own content, promote some media platforms, strengthen relationships with companies or news sites. However, in order to successfully implement a transmedia project in journalism, it is necessary to understand the peculiarities of transmedia projects and possible ways of their implementation. Insufficient theoretical basis and limited practice of transmedia technology application in Ukrainian journalism do not allow the representatives of Ukrainian news resources to create high quality transmedia projects, which causes a research problem. The purpose of the study is to solve the complex problem related to the weaknesses of structural models of transmedia projects that are applied for news content distribution in Ukraine. The object of the study is transmedia, which is used to spread news content in digital media space. The subject is structural models of transmedia projects for distribution of news content. The following methods are used within the framework of social communication approach in the dissertation: literature analysis, structural and functional analysis, comparison, case study, modeling, analogy, comparative analysis, induction, survey of foreign experts in media industry experienced in creating nonfiction transmedia projects, survey of top management representatives of the most popular Ukrainian news sites, survey of master’s students. The research novelty is related to the study of the peculiarities of transmedia technology application in the context of Ukrainian news sites. For the first time in the dissertation, the attitude of top management representatives’ of the most popular Ukrainian news sites to transmedia projects implementation was revealed; Ukrainian audience’s attitude to transmedia documentary projects was defined; the recommendations for Ukrainian specialists in media industry how to implement a transmedia project in the field of journalism were provided. On the basis of research by R. Pratten (types of transmedia “Franchise”, “Portmanteau” and “Complex”) and Jr. C. Pernisa (model of “monad open”) the system of structural models of transmedia projects for application in journalism has been improved. In a study the following aspects of the phenomenon of transmediation have been further developed: consideration of transmediation as a complex of sequential sub-processes; methodology for studying nonfiction transmedia projects; systematization of methods and methodological approaches in the context of exploring the transmediation.
