Essay

The thesis offers a new logical and semiotic approach to modelling of pedagogical aphorisms (PAs) in far-related languages, i.e. to building logical and semiotic models (LSMs) of PAs in English, Italian, and Ukrainian. Common and specific LSM were identified in the three studied languages. The notion aphorism is differentiated from such related terms as aphoristic expression, maxim, sentence, apothegm, gnome, winged words, phrase, utterance, paremia, humor, pun, paradox, proverb, and saying. In the thesis pedagogical aphorism is defined as a concisely expressed and completed individual authorʼs thought (irrespective of the primary / secondary authorship), concerning the problems of pedagogy as of both a science and an educational process, that has a special structure. The latter makes it possible to be reproduced in speech of different languages speakers, as well as induces reflection and building own judgments. The results of the thesis prove that the structure of PAs should be modelled based on framing, taking into account the division of pedagogical space (conceptual sphere) into such key concepts as PEDAGOGY, TEACHER, and STUDENT / PUPIL.
