Bezruk I. Experimental justification of approaches and standardization of ivy preparations

Respiratory diseases occur in people regardless of age and social status and remain the most common among the population of Ukraine. Cough is the main symptom of respiratory disease. Medicines containing ivy leaf have certain benefits for the treatment of cough and diseases of the bronchopulmonary system in general. Medicines of foreign production have a 71.43 % share in the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine. Zhytomyr pharmaceutical company Vishpfa decided to develop new medicines with ivy leaf extract (syrup “Gederin+” and capsules “Gederin”). Thus, there is a necessity to develop methods for standardization of both medicines and raw materials used in production. Since, the effectiveness of herbal medicines directly depends on the quality of plant raw materials, study its composition is required. One of the main stages of pharmaceutical drug development is the choice of method for quality control. Therefore, it is necessary to justify the criteria by which the most appropriate method for analysis might be determined. All mentioned above proves necessity of development of methods for standardization of ivy preparations and the definition of criteria to select methods for analysis.
