The thesis reveals the generalization and practical solution to the problem of the formation of future primary school teachers’ willingness for self-education in terms of research work. The research was based on the theoretical analysis and the study of observation and learning experience. The relevance of the dissertation topic is due to the dynamic changes in education and society, namely, the introduction of the “New Ukrainian School” reform into the educational process and changing requirements for professional training of future primary school teachers. The state of the research problem development has been investigated by distinguishing and analyzing such interrelated components as self-educational activity of future primary school teachers, theoretical and practical aspects of self-education in terms of professional training, specific nature and features of professional activity of primary school teachers, willingness for self-education and formation of the specified quality through research work. The essence of the “self-education” concept is clarified based on the terminological analysis of the key research concepts and taking into account the analysis of the state and specific features of professional training of future primary school teachers in pedagogical higher educational institutions on the formation of willingness for self-education. It is a motivated educational and cognitive activity of the individual, aimed at the active independent acquisition of new knowledge, the formation of skills and abilities necessary for the transition to a qualitatively new intellectual and professional level. It is specified that the self-education of future primary school teachers is their conscious systematic independent activity, aimed at acquiring new knowledge, and the formation of professional skills and abilities. It is self-regulated and forms the basis of teachers’ professional development.
