Essay

The dissertation comprehensively examines the development of sociocultural component in professional education of future navigators (second half of the XXth – the beginning of the XXIst century). The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the fact that the tendencies of the development of sociocultural component in professional education of future navigators in different periods of its development during the studied time range are characterized; the author's periodization of the development of sociocultural component in professional education of future navigators within certain chronological limits is substantiated; the historical and pedagogical experience of sociocultural training of future navigators is actualized and the prospects of its introduction into the modern domestic education system are outlined. The content of the concepts "development", "education", "professional education", "culture", "sociocultural component of education", "sociocultural competence", "future navigators", "development of sociocultural component in professional education of future navigators" is specified. Little-known and unknown archival documents, historical facts and information about the content and organization of the educational process in maritime educational institutions have been introduced into scientific circulation. The use of retrospective experience in the development of sociocultural component in professional education of future navigators in the system of modern maritime education has been further developed.
