Essay

The problem of social and pedagogical support of internally displaced persons in higher education institutions is investigated in the dissertation. On the basis of research of theoretical and practical scientific achievements the systematization and the comparative analysis of the basic approaches to studying the problems of internally displaced persons in social and humanitarian sciences is carried out. The analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature helped to identify problems of modern Ukrainian society, which are in search of a new place to live, armed conflicts, mass violations of the Ukrainian citizens’ rights on the temporarily occupied territories and forms and methods of social protection, psychological impact and socio-pedagogical work of internally displaced persons are needed to be improved. The terminological clarification of the concepts – «displaced persons», «internally displaced persons» have been made, the characteristics of this category as an object of social work are analyzed. It has been found out that the concept of «internally displaced persons» in the scientific literature is considered as individuals or groups of people who were forced to leave their homes or places of residence as a result, or to avoid the consequences of armed conflict, violence, human rights violations, natural or man-made disasters, technological disasters and which have not crossed internationally recognized state borders. The main problems of internally displaced persons in Ukraine and the need for their successful solution are highlighted. Peculiarities of social and pedagogical support of internally displaced persons in higher education institutions are determined have been marked, in particular, the state of scientific developments on the basics of socio-pedagogical work with IDPs has been highlighted, by defining the functional-role approach (defining the main functions and roles of specialists in the process of socio-pedagogical support of IDPs). The author's definition of the concept «social and pedagogical support of internally displaced persons in higher education institutions» as a process of joint interaction of research and teaching staff, social workers and volunteers has been drafted, which results in the formation of social competence of the individual, education of qualities needed for development of internally displaced persons` social adaptability, social activity and social autonomy, assistance in overcoming difficult life circumstances.
