The dissertation is devoted to the complex research of administrative and legal bases of selection for a position of the police officer in Ukraine. The state of scientific investigations of the historical stages of administrative and legal bases of selection for the position of a policeman of different periods is characterized and it is found out that in normative legal acts, mainly requirements for candidates for service in internal affairs bodies, and the process of selection of candidates , its principles and principles were not regulated by law.
