Essay

The object of this research is gender competence as component of implementation of gender-sensitive social work practice. The purpose of the study is theoretical justification for implementation of gender-sensitive social work practice and design of the training program for shaping social workers' gender competence in the context of developing family-based care. Research methods: theoretical (desk study, systemic analysis of the sources' data, interpretation of the obtained results); empirical (participant observation, content analysis of curriculum and respondents' statements, focused group interviews, questionnaire, testing); forming influence (action research). The scientific novelty of the research consists in the following: this is the first time that the training program for shaping social workers' gender competence called «USPIH» have been developed and appraised; a proprietary seven-step circular model of analyzing a case when dealing with the case study method has been proposed; a gender analysis of the program for training candidates for creating family forms of upbringing called «Pride» has been carried out; gender biases of candidates who decided to create family forms of upbringing have been identified; representations of gender views and competencies of social workers who train candidates for creating family forms of upbringing have been analysed; brief Ukrainian-language versions of the ambivalent sexism and ambivalence toward men inventory of P. Glick and S. Fiske have been adapted. The practical significance of the obtained research results is that they can be used in implementation of the training program into the process of professional upgrading of social workers and improving parenting competence of foster parents in the educational process of higher education institutions, social services and respective non-governmental organizations.
