National Defense University of Ukraine named after Ivan Chernyachovsky, Kyiv, 2023.The dissertation is devoted to solving the theoretical and experimental scientific task of the development of the intercultural competence of future Masters in Military Management in professional training. The relevance of the research is conditioned by the Ukraine's potential membership of the EU and close partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance in the light of full-scale hostilities that have unfolded on the territory of Ukraine due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation which have affected the intensity of intercultural dialogue with Western partners and the strengthening of intercultural relations. The course of the educational process towards the European concepts and values is defined in the Strategy for the Development of Higher Education of Ukraine until 2032 through a system of strategic and operational goals and objectives, namely: transformation of education in the security and defense sector in accordance with NATO doctrinal approaches and principles, creating conditions for the formation of the intercultural awareness and competencies in the conditions of multiculturalism, internationalization, globalization
and digitalization of the modern world. Accordingly, the current challenges for the professional activity of military specialists are as follows: a shift in emphasis to obtaining learning outcomes, quality of professional functioning in the intercultural environment, recognition of responsibility, independence, self-realization and self-development, emphasis on the development of leadership qualities that determine the need for effective interaction, cooperation, speed of learning, flexible thinking, adequate behaviour in an intercultural environment and subjective attitude in the context of globalization and internationalization processes which is an important component of professional training of military specialists today. Theoretical and methodological basis of the dissertation are the ideas of the philosophy of “dialogue of cultures”, “intercultural dialogue”, development of intercultural “sensivity”, the dialogism of culture and intercultural communication, humanistic orientation towards universal human values, the nature of human-culture interaction, the essence of intercultural subject-to-subject activity, organization of the professional training of Master in Military Management on the basis of cooperation and partnership, leadership and tolerance, focus on continuous professional growth, developmental value of culture, education, his/her self-realization as a subject of intercultural communication and carrier of creative ideas. Theoretical and methodological foundations of the raised scientific task in the domestic and foreign pedagogical theory and practice have been considered in the dissertation; it has been established that the methodological basis is a modern educational paradigm - a competence-based one. The structure and content of intercultural competence of future Masters in Military Management as the ability to conduct intercultural professional communication, subject-to-subject interaction based on a dynamic combination of socio-cultural, cultural, communicative knowledge, skills,
possession of experience in the intercultural environment with the aim of conducting a constructive intercultural dialogue and self-realization in the professional sphere has been specified and supplemented. The main components of intercultural competence of future Masters in Military Management (personal, affective, cognitive, communicative and activity) have been substantiated; with the aim of diagnosing their development the relevant criteria (motivational, subjective, emotional, cognitive, praxeological) have been defined and four levels of the development (low, medium, sufficient, high) have been identified. A model for the development of the intercultural competence of future Masters in Military Management consisting of conceptual, content, technological and effective interrelated blocks has been substantiated and developed. The conceptual block includes methodological approaches (competence-based, subjective-activity, contextual, cultural, andragogical, technological, developmental, axiological, environmental, and systemic) to
the organization of professional training; tasks, principles and leading ideas of the study.
