Marchenko A. The relationship between religious values and human rights in the context of global challenges

The relevance of the problem of relations between traditional religious norms and values, on the one hand, and universal value orientations and standards, universal human rights, on the other hand, is determined by globalization processes taking place in the modern world, changes in worldview and value priorities of the individual and the community. The problem of the interrelationship of religious values and human rights acquires special importance due to the fact that religion actively positions itself in the public sphere, penetrates into the realm of global politics and international relations. The rise of religious fundamentalism and radicalism in its various confessional forms, the strengthening of religious intolerance, the attempts of representatives of some religions to limit the rights and freedoms of non­believers and to put their religions, their religious freedom above the system of established universal moral and legal priorities, human rights as a universal value, are connected with the slogans of religious separateness and exclusivity, the exclusive right to a monopoly on religious truth. The policy of the governments of some states, which introduce the practice of restricting religious freedom for representatives of religious groups and religious minorities, thus depriving people of the right to worldview self­determination, to defend their own beliefs in accordance with their conscience, also causes concern. The significance and urgency of the researched problem is reinforced by the realities of the Russian­Ukrainian war, when the aggressor treacherously violates the fundamental rights of the human person, including the right to worldview and value self­determination, to freedom of religion or belief. The purpose of the work is to carry out a comprehensive religious studiesphilosophical analysis of the features of the relationship between religious values and human rights in the context of modern global challenges, the specifics of various configurations of their relationships in the discursive and public space.
