The dissertation comprehensively researches the theoretical and practical problems of the lack of proper professional training of business journalists and the lack of competence when working with narrow-field business information, in particular when reflecting socio-economic topics such as «housing/real estate». In the work have been improved the scientific approaches to the definition of business journalism as a creative-production process and scientific discipline, the components of the professional competence of a business journalist, have been proposed the author's model for evaluating the effectiveness of the socio-economic topic in journalistic material and the model for increasing the effectiveness of displaying the topic by means of business online media; a content analysis of selected business online media was carried out and an expert survey was conducted among profile journalists of business online media who work on coverage of the topic «housing/real estate», regarding the definition of Key concepts and elements of the socio-economic topic (KС&E SET), as well as perceptual quality criteria of journalistic material on the topic «housing/real estate». The first chapter of the dissertation «Theoretical and methodological foundations of the study of socio-economic topics in online business media» reveals: the theoretical foundations of the development of business journalism in Ukraine and the world; the essence and specificity of business journalism in three aspects and online business media, the classification of online business media is proposed; the second chapter of the dissertation «Socio-economic topic «housing/real estate» in media texts of online business media» reveals the peculiarities of the research methodology of the reflection of the socio-economic topic in social communication studies; established perceptive quality criteria of journalistic materials as the basis of the model of presentation of a narrowly branched socio-economic topic in online business media of Ukraine; the results of the content analysis of selected online business media regarding the features and effectiveness of displaying the socio-economic topic are presented; in the third chapter of the dissertation «Elements of professional competence of a business journalist when working with socio-economic topics» the following is developed: a clear list of professional competences and program results of studying business journalism; a model of presenting highly specialized information on the example of the socio-economic topic «housing/real estate» in Ukrainian online business media; the conceptual apparatus of business journalism is formed.
