The dissertation is devoted to the study of information technology as a tool for genealogical research in the archives of Ukraine.
Achieving the set goal determined the solution of the following tasks: to reveal the state of scientific development of the problem and the source base of the research; clarify the conceptual and categorical apparatus of research, in particular, define the essence and meaning of such basic terms as "genealogical research", "genealogical inquiry", "digital heritage"; to establish and substantiate the main stages of the introduction of information technologies into the activity of archival institutions, which in aggregate ensures the scientific, intellectual, educational, informational, and cultural needs of users; to reveal the current trends and features of digitization of the archival industry; identify and analyze the peculiarities of the functioning of websites and pages in social networks of archival institutions in terms of their effectiveness in popularizing genealogical information; to reveal innovative strategies in the activities of archival institutions to popularize genealogical research with the involvement of information technologies. The object of the research is information technologies in the activities of the archives of Ukraine, the subject is the use of information technologies as a tool for popularizing genealogical research in the archives of Ukraine.
In the first chapter, the historiography and normative-legal basis of activity of archival institutions of Ukraine in conditions of digitization are studied, the systematized source base for the introduction of information technologies for genealogical research in modern conditions is presented, the theoretical and methodological principles are specified, and the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the dissertation is clarified.
The analysis of scientific research on the formation, development and implementation of information technologies as an effective tool in the archival field in general and genealogical research in archives in particular, shows the significant achievements of Ukrainian scientists in the study of this issue. Among them stand out the works of such well-known theoreticians and practitioners of archival affairs as H. Boryak, L. Butko, N. Butsenko, D. Vasylenko, M. Grigoruk, L. Dubrovina, H. Zhelnova, V. Zhuk, Y. Kalakura, A. Kiselyova, M. Kovtun, N. Korzyk, B. Kormych, I. Matyash, K. Novokhatskyi, M. Palienko, N. Platonova, Z. Sverdlyk, T. Tkachenko, N. Hristova, M. Shimchenko, L. Yudina. The current regulatory framework for the introduction of information technologies into the activities of Ukrainian archives contributes, on the one hand, to the creation of a high-quality informative product, and on the other, to the activation of genealogical research in archival institutions.
The source base of the research is a wide range of different types of sources: regulatory and legal documents of the national, departmental and branch levels, dissertations, abstracts, monographs, encyclopedic editions, websites of state archives of Ukraine and other Ukrainian and foreign organizations, institutions, agencies, associations, Ukrainian and foreign scientific journals and continuing editions, materials of scientific and scientific-practical conferences, etc. The multifacetedness of the source base and the generalizations accumulated in science together make it possible to comprehensively study the specifics of the use of information technologies as a tool for the popularization of genealogical research in the archives of Ukraine.
