The dissertation presents the results of research into the process of forming younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities in the process of musical education in supplementary educational institutions. The research work offers an interpretation of the meaning of such concepts as «artistry», «artistic abilities», «musical abilities», «acting skill», «performing skill», «artistic creativity», and «performing art». We revealed that one of the leading problems of supplementary art education institutions is the formation of students’ artistry, which is presented as a complex of motivational and meaningful education. As a result, one of the tasks of modern supplementary art education is the formation of students' artistic abilities. The key concept is considered to be the ability of a musician-performer to influence the emotional sphere of listeners during the realization of a musical image through the involvement of the mechanism of co-creation and dialogue, causing appropriate aesthetic experiences. We developed the structure of artistic abilities of younger schoolchildren in the unity of need-motivational, content-emotional and artistic-creative components. In the research work we revealed that the process of forming the artistic abilities of junior high school students in supplementary art educational institutions will take place more effectively if appropriate scientific approaches, functions, and principles are applied. Pedagogical conditions are determined to promote the formation of artistic abilities of younger schoolchildren in the process of musical education in supplementary educational institutions: the introduction of the training «Formation of younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities» (contributes to the participants development of the experiment connected with the qualities necessary for the formation of artistic abilities, such as: attention, imagination, fantasy, the ability to relax, mime and pantomime expressiveness and stage freedom, emotional memory, willpower, the ability to reincarnate, etc.); involving younger schoolchildren in active playing activities in the process of musical education in supplementary educational institutions (it is an effective means of socializing a child in the process of understanding the artistic and figurative subtext of a musical work, has a collective character, creates favorable conditions for the development of a sense of partnership, mastering methods of positive interaction, promotes self-expression and self-realization of younger schoolchildren); creation of a creative environment in the educational process of supplementary educational institutions (helps students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve artistry in the process of performing a musical piece, to make independent decisions). In the process of implementing the specified pedagogical conditions, tools, methods and forms were used, they are based on a democratic style of interaction and aimed at increasing the level of the studied phenomenon: methods: traditional, problem-creative, intonation-style analysis, contrasting comparison of instrumental works; forms: training «Formation of younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities», concert-performance activity, analysis of a concert performance, game activity, exercises for the development of artistic qualities; means: technical equipment (computers, presentation equipment), educational and methodological complex (selection of necessary literature, reproductions, audio and video library (fragments of solo concert performances by musicians, musical groups, performances of children of different age categories), educational and methodological manuals, the training plan «Formation of younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities», a card for evaluating the performer's artistry during a concert performance. We developed a model and substantiated the method of forming the artistic abilities of younger schoolchildren in the process of musical education in supplementary educational institutions. An experimental study on the formation of younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities in supplementary art educational institutions was carried out in the conditions of ascertaining and formative experiments. In order to conduct a ascertaining experiment by the method of theoretical modeling, a criterion apparatus was developed. The levels of formation of younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities were determined (high, sufficient, average, low). The introduction of a formative experiment, quantitative and qualitative processing of its results made it possible to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed experimental methodology for the formation of younger schoolchildren’s artistic abilities in supplementary art educational institutions.
