Essay

The purpose of the research is to reveal the features of the art of fine ceramics of the leading artistic and industrial centers of Great Britain at the end of the XVIII and the beginning of the XX centuries. In order to achieve the set tasks, the state of scientific study of the topic was analyzed, the source base of the research was considered and understood, the methodological tools and theoretical foundations necessary for the work were selected. The works of English art historians devoted to the topic of fine ceramics of Great Britain of the specified period are considered, including J. Sandon, D Godden, L. Jewitt, G. Stevenson, R. Copeland D., L. Bebb, P. Woolliscroft, I. Freeston, H. Ballowe. Specimens of porcelain and faience from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, thanks to public and private collections, were examined and analyzed. The most numerous and important for research were the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Art Museum, the Wurster Royal Porcelain Museum, the Spode Museum, the National Museum of Liverpool, the Stoke-on-Trent Ceramics Museum, and the Belleek Ceramics Museum in Great Britain; Seattle Art Museum in Australia; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the USA; Kharkiv Art Museum, Nikanor Onatsky Regional Art Museum in Sumy, Museum of Fine Arts of O. M. Biliy, The Khanenko Museum, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Memorial Museum, Shvets Museum in Kyiv, The Ethnology Institute of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. First of all, these are the products of Wedgwood and Spode, in smaller quantities there are works by Worcester and Minton.
