This thesis reveals theoretical and empirical results of psychological peculiarities of an individual’s self-actualization in the process of his/ her creation of the living space. The thesis paper provides the results of experimental study that envisaged investigation of the nature of relationships between the psychological aspects of self-actualization and the peculiar features of creation of the living space. The tasks of the experiment included the following: to expose life satisfaction level life of the experiment participants; to identify the motives and individual peculiarities of creation of the living space; to determine the students’ desire for self-actualization; to make clear the peculiar features of manifestation of the study subjects’ desire for self- actualization when they create their own living space. It has updated, theoretically generalized and supplemented the scientific studies on the issue of self-actualization and designing of the living space.The novelty of this study is determined by emphasising for the first time the peculiarities of retarding impact on the individual’s self-actualization process; learned helplessness phenomenon and inner contradiction of psyche (intrapersonal conflict). The thesis defines and explains the psychological dimensions of self-actualization during the formation of an individual living environment and substantiates the methods of motivation toward self-actualization. This study made it easier to objectify the internal and external elements influencing the quality of the personal living environment. Along with the psychological structure and signs of a functional living environment, the study shed light on the social and psychological drivers of self-actualization. The work details the opportunities and challenges of human self-development.
