A. R. Mykolaichuk. Preventive Conservation and Restoration of Easel Painting: the Use of Modern Information and Communication Technologies. — Qualifying scientific work on the rights of the manuscript. PhD thesis in specialty 023 Fine Art, Decorative Art, Restoration. — National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture. Kyiv, 2024. The dissertation explores the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on research, conservation-restoration, and preventive conservation of easel paintings in Ukraine and globally. This topic is under-researched in Ukraine despite its relevance due to rapid advancements in knowledge transfer and shifts in established concepts. The work covers ICT applications in technological and art expertise, highlighting innovations such as computer tomography, multispectral imaging, and AI-driven image analysis. ICT enables high-quality digital imaging, 3D modeling, and augmented reality, enhancing artistic analysis and museum education. ICT also aids in disseminating research findings through projects like "Closer to Van Eyck" and "Operation Night Watch," improving methods for detecting hidden images and analyzing craquelure patterns. It supports monitoring museum environments and optimizing conservation methods, while also contributing to energy efficiency and visitor engagement. However, ICT use comes with risks, necessitating strict security protocols. The dissertation underscores the importance of ICT training for conservators and highlights how AI-based programs can enhance conservation practices, including assessing preservation and documenting artworks. The findings suggest that ICT can significantly boost research and conservation efforts in Ukraine and provide valuable insights for educational programs in Conservation-restoration and Art History.
