Safoniuk I. The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages: Political and Legal Experience of Application in Ukraine

The results of the study significantly deepen the understanding of the peculiarities of the implementation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in Ukraine, in particular in the context of political, social and cultural transformations taking place in the country. The study demonstrates how to balance the protection of the linguistic rights of national minorities with the preservation of the integrity of the state and the safeguarding of its national interests by analyzing examples of the application of the Charter in other countries. These results can serve as a basis for further research in the field of national minority rights, interethnic relations and language policy. The recommendations developed in this study may be useful for improving Ukraine’s language policy, particularly in the context of its European integration obligations. Besides, the results of the study are of practical value, as they can be used as a basis for developing new strategies for state policy to protect the rights of minority languages. This will allow Ukraine to respond more effectively to current challenges related to information aggression and the use of the «language issue» as an instrument of political pressure. It is also important that the data obtained can help to build a dialogue between the state and national minorities, which will help to preserve cultural diversity and social harmony in the country.
