Masian A. Formation the decision-making ability of police officers at the stage of professional training

Dissertation for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in specialty 053 – «Psychology». National Academy of Internal Affairs, Kyiv, 2025. The dissertation presents a theoretical and empirical generalization and a new solution to scientific and applied tasks related to the problem of forming the ability to make decisions in police officers at the stage of professional training in modern conditions. The state of scientific development of the problem was studied based on the analysis of fundamental and applied research in the field of decision-making psychology, the role of the ability to subjective rationality of the individual in decision-making was determined, the determinants of optimal decision-making at different stages of the professional activity of police officers were described, taking into account its specifics. In accordance with the topic, goal and objectives of the work, the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the research problem was clarified and expanded; the system of factors and mechanisms of decision-making in police officers was substantiated, against this background a number of problems related to the individual ability to reformat decision-making scenarios, which is due to the tendency to preserve or destroy fixed attitudes, were highlighted. The justification of maximizing the success of decisions made, which depends on the specifics and social context of the activities of the National Police, the attitude of the individual to the near and distant future in modern conditions of the professional activity of police officers, was carried out. External and internal factors of decision-making were theoretically studied and empirically investigated. The role of flexibility and readiness for change, which determine the ability to form and apply new adaptation scenarios in the professional activities of police officers, is determined; the influence of risk-taking on decision-making under conditions of uncertainty is substantiated; the importance of these factors in the process of forming metacognitive decision-making skills is substantiated.
