The dissertation deals with the traditions of parable conventionality in small genres of Russian prose of the last third of the 19th century. Works of small genre forms in the creative activity of L.N.Tolstoy, N.S.Leskov, V.M.Garshin, V.G.Korolenko, A.P.Chekhov that contain elements of parable poetic in its formal and idea and semantic structure get their reading in the dissertation. The main research method is historical-literary. A variety of process of parable contamination with the most productive genres of concise prose at the close of the 19th century (the story, the legend, the fairy-tale) is being investigated in the paper. The selected approach allows to regard the allegoric story as a historic transformation of the genre. In A.P.Chekhov's works the parable element is considered to be one of the principles of the world artistic vision, which stipulates the originality of Chekhov's stories of the period of the writer's creative maturity. The sphere of usage is literary studies.
