Gerasymynko I. Typology of the Infinitive ( on the material of the Slavonic, Germanic and Romanic languages)

The paper aims to verify the current scientific hypothesis about the relic nature of the Infinitive, which is investigated within the context of the origin of the Infinitive category, its structural peculiarities and grammatical properties. The results of the analysis have affirmed the general linguistic tendency of the disappearance of the Infinitive and clarified the issue of the purpose of its emergence: the Infinitive as a category of generalization existing above paradigm and usage could derive from the noun in order to prepare the ground for the development of the verb as a parts of speech. The methods of the investigation are descriptive, comparative, statistical and functional. The results make use of the teaching in higher educational establishments and schools.
