ROGACh L. Semantic Basis of Linguistic Terms in the Ukrainian and English Languages

The thesis investigates semantics of linguistic terminological lexics of the Ukrainian and English languages and its correlation with other terminological systems of distantly related languages and gener-ally used lexics. The analysis of semantic structure of a word as both general language and terminological unit is given: different relations between lexical meanings are described and also the quantitative-qualitative characteristics of linguistic term's seme and lexical composition is established. Anthropocen-tric approach to language study and interrelation between language and thought make up the methodo-logical basis of investigation. Comparative study of the Ukrainian and English linguistic terminology is carried out with the help of a specially elaborated methodology of their semantic analysis which treats the semantic space as an important feature of the structural organization of separate words' lexical meanings and lexico-semantic systems in general.
