Essay

The thesis is dedicated to questions of the scientific heritage of Theodor Kocher in the field of surgery and to his influence on the development of the surgery in the Ukraine at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. In the work a new direction in research of the medical and historical past of the Ukraine is developing, which is based on rehabilitation of the historic truth in the part of influence of the European science on the development of separate branches of medicine. It was established, that Th. Kocher's ideas, particularly in the field of surgery of struma, abdominal surgery, neuro-surgery, traumatology and orthopaedy, which the Ukrainian surgeons of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century adopted, have played its important part in the development and raising the guality of surgical aid in the Ukraine and have not lost their significance till present time. Proposed are ways of expansion of research of international medical contacts of the Ukraine. The ma in results of the work found an application in preparation of monograph. In establishing of scientific connections in the sphere of history of medicine with a number of the European universities.
