The main types of the inner monologue is one of which is readressed to the literary character through scientific thinking and also the one which directly belongs to the author (the author's monologue and the monologue of the literary character). These types are in their turn divided into subtypes (autocommunication, imaginery monologue, indirect speech). The dissertation deals with the understanding of evolutional processes, which took place in the Ukrainian prose in the end of the 19-th century and the beginning of the 20-th centuries in the contest of the renewal of the forms and functions of the inner monologue. The dissertation studies a monologue as one of the most important means of comprehending the spiritual "self" as well as spiritual fundamentals of the of the authorship phenomenon, which is present not only in the style, not only in author's attitude to his characters, but also in his characters themselves as an original projection on the situation.
