The thesis is a theoretical and experimental research in terms of structuring teaching tasks aimed to improve the deep understanding of a literary work. The investigation has developed and proposed scientifically grounded and experimentally tested methods as well as the ways of implementing teaching tasks at the preparatory stage for understanding, the stage of preliminary understanding and the stage of deep and detailed learning to understand an epic text. The study suggests a new direction in organizing students' learning and cognitive activities based on structured teaching tasks. A well-grounded technique has turned out to be the most appropriate and it is developed in accordance with two parameters: -tasks aimed to develop mental activity; -tasks aimed to develop understanding of different aspects of an epic text. Each of the above nominated parameters has its own taxonomy of tasks with the methodical suggestions as for the ways of implementing these teaching tasks at school. It has been proved t hat such trained skills as concretization and summig up the image promote deeper and better understanding of a literary work by senior pupils. The findings of the research can be a theoretical and methodical base for further improvement of teaching process at gymnasia, lyceums and comprehensive schools.
