Essay

The dissertation deals with the theoretical substantiation, practical development and experimental check of the modular-project methods (MPM) of teaching English for specific purposes (ESP) to the first-year students majoring in petroleum engineering at technical universities. MPM has been created as a result of combining a modular approach and project-work methods. It provides an integrated development of the students’ communicative competence in the main types of professionally oriented foreign language communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing. There has been theoretically grounded and experimentally checked the content and types of teaching and learning activities in Module I – everyday communication, Module II – professionally oriented reading, Module III – project work, defined their interaction for the integrated development of professionally oriented communicative skills and the impact of MPM on the development of the students’ positive motivation in learning.
