Sulyma V. The Holy Trinity in Ukrainian literature of the ХІth-ХУth centuries: aspects of interpretation and artistic embodiment.

The dissertation deals with a little explored subject of early Ukrainian literature - Holy Trinity and its functional role in Medieval Ukrainian literature. The results of the new analysis of literary works of the Christian Middle Ages are presented in this dissertation. The interpretations of the Holy Тrinity provided in the works of the chronicler Nestor, Luka Zhydiata, Theodosius of Pechery, Illarion of Kyiv, Klyment Smoliatych, Cyril of Turov (Kyrylo Turivsky) others are analysed in a separate section of the work. The stylistic means which the ancient writers practised are investigated: recurrence, negation, multilevel sense of the text - literal (historical) and hidden (allegorical), and also tropes (allegory, comparison, symbol etc.). The thesis seeks to explain the specifics of assimilating Christian sacral symbols and archetypes through an analysis of samples of Ukrainian folklore.
