The thesis investigates in complex German colonization of Volyn, economic and cultural activities of colonists in the region at the end of the 18 th - the beginning of the 20 th centuries. On the basis of numerous archival, statistical and German sources the origin of Volyn Germans, dynamics of their number and regions of their compact settlement, forms of economic activity, way of life, religion, education of colonists are analyzed.
