Essay

Luka Dolynskyy's artistic biography and professional activities for the Uniate church were examined in the thesis, emphasizing the context of religious processes from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th century. On the one hand, the study focused on the issues of artistic patronage maintained by the Ukrainian high Uniate clergy in the 18th century, and on the other, on L. Dolynskyy as a large-scale figure in the cultural-religious sphere. The thesis provides the author’s interpretation of the historical, cultural, confessional, social connections which influenced Dolynskyy’s projects for the Lviv Uniat Eparchy. The main biographical points and stages of the artist’s professional career were analyzed on the basis of various sources, both textual (as documents and publications) and visual (as artifacts from his artistic milieu). Furthermore, new visual and documental sources related to L. Dolynskyy's ecclesiastical art projects collected by the author during the 2009–2019 years were introduced into scholarly discussion.
