In a theoretic-methodical part of the thesis the system "population and environment' as an original system in radio-ecological investigations, the impact of the radiation pollution on components of the environment and the human being have been examined. The expediency of applying the system approach, cartographical modeling and cartographical methods in studing a radio-ecological situation has been studied and proved. The necessity to divide the radio-ecological monitoring into 3 time phases has been theoretically proved. In experimental practical investigations Polis'kiy region of Kyivs'ka oblast has been chosen as an object. The scientific concept of an atlas of a new type - a radio-ecological one, which can be used for making analogous atlases for other regions in the sphere of impact of Chernobyl catastrophe - has been developed. Approaches to use of computer technologies when making systems of maps, which are directed to ecological problems, have been determined.
