Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the birth, formation and development of printing as the fundamental principle of publishing and journalism in the town of Kolomyia Ivano Frankivsk region. The objective picture of the publishing process as a complete phenomenon with its peculiarities, positive and negative moments is reconstructed, the complex way of searching of national orientation in the conditions of the Austro-Hungarian occupation and the attempts to preserve the traditions in the conditions of the Soviet totalitarism are shown; the role of the publishing in the national rebirth and state building is investigated. The role of book-publishing and journalism in establishing contacts of Galicia with the Great Ukraine and in strengthening the ideas of the Sobor's Ukrainian lands is shown. The results of the research assert that printing, book-publishing, journalism in Kolomyia are harmoniously connected with the general development of printing in Galicia, though, they have their distinguishing features, priorities: they are ethnoforming.
