Essay

Rites of the family cycle (birth, wedding, funeral) as the transition rites are studied. The main goal of the dissertation is to investigate the ways of modelling ritual's transit phases. It was made by the studying simbolic image of transition person (called liminal). There were analyzed three groups of codes - behavior, acoustic and code of dress. There was marked such a liminal person features: immovability, inability, blindness, mutism, deafness, dismembered, androgyne, cocoon shape of body, non-function. We became to the conclusion that transition in ritual is the changing negative feature of liminal persons (in the begining parts of ritual) into positive feature (in final parts). In this way person passes on the higher level of social structure and became to be relevant member of society (except on funeral rites).
