The work is devoted to the investigation of typology of cognitive metaphors on a material of the Ukrainian, Russian and English languages. With that end in view there have been analysed a number of lexicographical, scientific, popular scientific, fiction, journalistic sources in Ukrainian, Russian and English. Such main types of cognitive metaphors have been established: extensional-intensional, extensional-implicatsional; contensional-intensional, contensional-implicatsional. The research has been resulted in specification of the term “cognitive metaphor”, it has been drawn the main ways of metaphorical meanings’ formations. There have been described specific characters of cognitive metaphors’ functions in the texts of different styles.
