Essay

It is analyzed the theory and practice of military conversion in the West, Russia and Ukraine. It is studied the reasons, purposes, conditions, mechanisms and characteristic of realization of conversion under different social conditions. The models of "permanent", "administrative" and of "market-oriented" conversions have been built. It is explored the specific characteristics and conditions of conversion in Ukraine, where military industry used to be the most important and significant sector of economy within the former USSR. That is why, it is argued, the conversion in Ukraine obstains a specific socioeconomic aspect which associates with a qualitative transformation of the country in a democratic state with a market-oriented economy and a developed civil society. On the base of the analysis conducted, it is argued, that the most optimal model of conversion for Ukraine lies on the way of the creation of the sociopolises, that are the socio-industrial complexes which combine together economy, knowledge, science and human capital - a high qualification of workers. The model of "conversion under transformation" for Ukraine is suggested.
