Essay

The Thesis is devoted to the analysis of anthropological heritage of Fedyr Vovk (1847 - 1918), the prominent anthropologist of our country, whose scientific activity was either ignoring or undervaluing by historians of science. The Process of formation of anthropological attitudes of this Ukrainian scientist and a role of the French anthropological school in it were retraced. As to anthropological type peculiar to the Ukrainians the comparative analysis of Fedyr Vovk's observations with the conclusions of modern science according to the most significant separate somatic indications: pigmentation of hair and eyes, height, main facial and nasal indicators proves the fact that the principal propositions of Fedyr Vovk's conception which are related to the extent of anthropological homogeneity of the Ukrainians and the directions of their anthropological relations are of great significance even at present.
