Essay

The thesis deals with the methodology of teaching future teachers reading English literary texts in the aspect of intercultural communication. The methodology has been theoretically substantiated. The didactic, psycholinguistic, methodological premises of teaching reading were taken into account: didactic functions of literary texts, factors of their accessibility, the contents of teaching senior stage students reading. It was stated, that the didactic functions are realized due to aesthetic and socio-cultural potentials, inherent in literary texts. The realization of methodological premises of teaching reading is connected with the methodical principles of selection of literary texts. The analysis of aesthetic and socio-cultural potentials was done on the basis of W.S.Maugham's short stories and different organizational forms of reading were proposed. As a result of the research, a system of exercises for reading literary texts in the aspect of intercultural communication has been created. The given system of exercises is aimed at the development of reader's competence. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology was verified and confirmed during the experimental teaching. Methodological recommendations on how to organize and implement teaching reading English literary texts have been developed and applied in practice in three higher educational establishments of Ukraine.
