Essay

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of the problem of militarization on three levels (theoretic and conceptual, doctrinal, practical and political) and in three dimensions - spatial (within the Middle East regional system) and temporal, which is limited by the chronological framework of the research. This thesis deals with the sources, peculiarities, development and consequences of the militarization of the Middle East region. It studies the influence of militarization on the internal and foreign policy of the countries in this region. Theoretic and conceptual approaches to the problem of the role of militarization in international affairs, particularly in the Middle East region are analyzed, the most important theories and concepts that influenced either directly or not the process of militarization of the region have been found out. The thesis, based on the original documentary database, defines theoretical principles, peculiarities and national specific character of the positions of the Middle East and other countries concerning the aforementioned problem. The historic conditions of militarism formation in the Middle East, internal and external factors of militarization of the region are examined. The author determines the influence of the central force dynamics in the Middle East on the process of its militarization. The militarization effect on the internal and foreign policy of the Middle East countries has been analyzed. The thesis contains scientifically grounded forecast of development of destabilizing trends on all structural level of the region. In the context of comparative analysis of the sources it became possible to determine the degree of militarization influence on national, regional and international mechanisms for providing safety of this region, and the dependence of this process on the activity of the world leading countries. All opinions, concepts and theories that exist in the contemporary historiography concerning the possible ways of solving this problem are systematized and classified. The thesis clarifies the ways of overcoming militarization and implementation of conversion. The author gives practical recommendations as for working out and implementation of the Ukrainian policy on this issue.
