Essay

The dissertation researches the problem of the pedagogic grammar design and its implementation in the teaching process on the material of teaching English prepositions. It is argued that the pedagogic grammar designer has to take into account the relevant data from psychological and linguistic grammar. The methodological typology that takes into account the conceptual and the structural complexity, the degree of interlingual and intralingual interference, and that includes 16 potentially possible types, has been suggested. The validity of the typology has been proved experimentally. The hierarchy of the components acquisition within the English preposition system that has to be taken into account in the English prepositions course organisation has been determined experimentally. A concentrical approach to the English prepositions course organisation with the assortment of meanings of different categories of prepositions within each concentre has been suggested. Within this research two types of teaching information (models, algorithms) for each preposition subcategory have been developed. The requirements for the English preposition-teaching course at the university-level Schools of Foreign Languages have been set. Meeting these requirements and the usage of problem solving technique resulted in a high efficiency of the English preposition-teaching course developed and experimentally tested in the dissertation.
