Bilas N. Archаeological Science at the Lviv University (the second half of the 19th century - 30s of the 20th century)

The thesis deals with history of archaeological science in Lviv University in the period from the second half of the 19th century till 1939. On the basis of comprehensive sources the researcher defined distinctive points and peculiarities of formation of archaeological science in Lviv University till 1918. The thesis demonstrates the process of reforming of archaeological educating in the University. The author has investigated the organization of educational process in archaeological studies and other related branches at the Faculties of Philosophy (humanitarian) and Theology. The author has clarified the role of the Departments of Classical Archaeology and Prehistory Archaeology with the Special Emphasis on Prehistory of Polish Lands at the Faculty of Philosophy in organizing archaeological research. The contribution of researchers into exploring certain archaeological sites has been traced. Besides, kinds and importance of contacts between Lviv University faculty and other scholars from Lviv as wellas foreign scholars have been revealed.
