Essay

The thesis offers the political study of an international political counteraction against the drugs spreading as the factor of a destructive influence on the society development. The author investigates the historic evolution of narcotics phenomenon, addresses the place and role of drugs in the globalization processes and identifies the drug-related threats to the society. The author argued the necessity to unite and strengthen the efforts of the world community in the fight against drugs. In the work the modern theories of international relations system as well as the concepts of international cooperation on the state and system levels as a main instrument in the war on drugs have been summarized. The attention has been given to the efforts of the United Nations to develop and direct effective international cooperation in the field of drugs, to control production and trafficking, and to implement prevention and treatment strategies for combating illicit drugs demand and supply throughout the world. Based on the wide range of official documents the progress in the development of the Ukrainian anti-drugs policy and its role in the international cooperation have been examined. The author formulates a number of proposals for the improvement of a situation with illicit drugs in Ukraine.
