Object: national and ethnopolitical processes in the sphere of international relations; aim: classify nationalism and chauvinism as distinct factors of international relations, define the nature of their influence; methods: analysis, synthesis and deduction, comparative, historical; first time analysis of nationalism and chauvinism in international relations was made with their clear defining as different factors; results: two main external functions of national ideology defined, the need for transformation of the international system argued for, differences and common elements of nationalism's and chauvinism's influences on foreign policy of states defined; apply in foreign policy planning, predicting international activities of states and nationalities
