. Subject of research: institute of liquidity and also the state and non-state financial institutions, which mediate its movement in economic system. Objectives: to characterize the common - divided nature of liquidity, to reveal its forms, to prove institutional matter of liquidity, functions and the main principle of movement of liquidity, its realization in system of financial institutions of transitive economy. Methods of research: dialectical, logical-historical, functional, evolutional-institutional, statistical. Results, novelty: definition of liquidity is offered; structurally functional historical forms of liquidity are revealed, basic institutional functions and main principle of movement of liquidity are characterized; the role of continuous circulation of liquidity in world economy and on the level of the state and non-state financial institutions of transitive economy is shown. Field of application: scientific and research work, elaboration and improvement of monetary policy.
