Essay

The thesis is aimed at elaborating methodology of teaching discussion on the basis of fictions. The object of the research is the process of teaching unprepared speech on the basis of English stories. The purpose of the research: based on theoretical substantiation, practical elaboration and experimental approbation of the suggested methodology. The methods of the research included the study and analysis of pedagogical, psychological, sociological, linguistic, psycholinguistic and methodological literature on the research subject; questioning of students and teachers of linguistic departments; methodological experiment, statistical calculation of the results. The scientific novelty of the results lies in the fact that it's for the first time that the methodology of teaching discussion on the basis of English stories was made up; the theoretical model of the studying process was created; the structure of discussion was specified; the principal objective and subjective difficulties of the teaching process were analyzed and approaches to their overcoming were recommended; the learning material at language and speech levels was selected; it gave the grounds for designing a complex of exercises aiming at forming and developing oral unprepared speech habits and skills in the process of consecutive and stage-by-stage discussion of factual and conceptual information of the text. The practical value of the research results lies in introduction in studying process the suggested methodology of teaching discussion on the basis of fictions; using the selected material at language and speech levels. The suggested methodology was verified and corroborated practically during the experimental teaching. Methodological recommendations on how to organize and implement fiction-related teaching discussion were developed and applied practically in three higher educational establishments of Ukraine.
