Essay

Object: vegetation period of maize self-pollinated lines. Aim: to investigate the peculiarities on formation and variation of vegetation period, combining ability manifestation and donor capacity of maize lines. Methods: field and laboratory experiments, statistics. Novelty: the types of vegetative period formation for maize lines were described, their association with productivity characters were found out. Results: the lines with a different type of the vegetative period formation, high donor capacity by the agronomical traits for breeding of hybrids with improved adaptiveness were indentified. Application stage: the revealed lines were included in breeding programmes of UAAS organizations and educational establishments. Application area: maize breeding for heterosis.
