Olena L. The Russian Censorship and Publication of Taras Shevchenko's Writings (1861 - 1916)

The dissertation is devoted to the investigation of the peculiarities of publication, censorship and prohibition on circulation of T. Shevchenko's literary heritage on the Russian Empire territory from 1861 up to 1916. The dissertation also examines the reasons of censorship repression of both T. Shevchenko's writings which are devoted to the poet. The work gives the review of the State Archives materials which deal with the censorship situation in Russia of that period. Special attention is given to the analysis of the main directions and stages of the Russian Empire censorship policy in respect to Ukraine. Besides, the work presents the complex analysis of the influence of antiukrainian publications on the Tsarist government policy. The dissertation also gives the review of the materials which were unknown previously. The author investigates the history of censor's prohibitions on the circulation of different publications of T. Shevchenko's "Kobzar". The work gives much attention to the publication of the well-known "Kobzar" under the editorship of V. Domanitsky. The work presents complex investigation of publication of T. Shevchenko's different collections of poetry and fiction, and also scientific, publicistic, drama and other writings devoted to the poet. The dissertation analyses the influence of the repression of T. Shevchenko's works on the development of the Ukrainian national spirit in general.
