Essay

This scientific work is devoted to the investigation of functioning of native book market under such condition, when Ukrainian book has been appeared without proper support of the state. The dissertation is the first attempt of the complex studying of the system of creation, spreading and popularization of the national book during the market economy. In the work the profits and losses of publishing in independent Ukraine have been analyzed, the reasons, which had reduced to the crisis in branch of book publishing has been ascertained. The transformation of the role of publishing production in society has been followed - from the recognition of the book as the ecclesiastic value during the time of past Soviet Union, till the pragmatic role in the period of market circumstances; also there has been given the reason that the development of book publishing in the country is dependent upon the politics of the state, as for this branch. The delimiting of such concept as "national" and "Ukrainian languid" book is the important feature of the work. The dissertation rests on analysis of normatively-legal formal documents, which regulate the publishing activity; on the investigation of several bookstores and active publishing houses, and also of files of the Book's Chamber of Ukraine.
