Serhiy S. Book Publishing in Kyiv (the second half of the XIXth - beginning of the XXth centuries.)

Dissertation scrutinizes the process of printing industry and book-publishing development in Kyiv from manufactures with their manual work towards developed capitalist industrial system with all its elements - sophisticated technical equipment, competition, rising of exploitation of workers, market division, pushing out small entrepreneurs, etc. Author also depicts participation of typographers in liberation movement; impact of prominent persons on printing trade and book publishing who put up the level of printing and publishing works in Kyiv and made them comparable to the best samples of this kind in the world. Development of the Russian language books and the Ukrainian language books was analyzed in the vast historic context, in the light of hard oppression of Ukrainian book in tsarist Russia. Main types and kinds of publications printed in Kyiv in 1861-1917 were studied.
