Thesis is devoted to the research on mechanisms of combating trafficking in human beings that are applied within the framework of the Council of Europe and the EU. It considers in what way rules of law and activities of institutions of these two organizations can influence the national legislation of their member states. The author analyses the level of correspondence of the Ukrainian legislation with the standards of the Council of Europe and the European Union in this field and determines the spheres where approximation according to these standards should still be applied.
