Trachuk T. The Origin and Development of Journalism Studies in Ukraine (the end of the 19th century - 80 years of the 20th century)

The dissertation deals with the analysis of ways and stages of the origin and development of journalism studies in Ukraine from the end of the 19th century to the end of the eighties of the 20th century. The dissertation makes the first attempt to view the journalism science process taking place in the aforementioned period, its dependence upon social and political situation, specific historical events, actual status of journalism, research activities, appearance of scientific personalities. The scientific paper investigates the initial stage of scientific searches in Ukrainian journalism studies, examines the issue of methodology that was used by the Ukrainian scientists during the Soviet times, shows the process of formation of historical and journalistic line of researches conducted during the same period, determines the main achievements of the Ukrainian theorists of journalism, describes the most remarkable attainments of the diaspora researchers of the press, proposes periodization of the historyof the Ukrainian science of journalism.
