Essay

The generalizing picture of the development of spinning and weaving among the population of the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe of the Ukraine of the seventh - early third centuries BC is reproduced in the dissertation. The implements and tools, connected with spinning and weaving, and also the prints of fabrics on the ceramics are comprehensively investigated. The majority of the present data on the afore-mentioned wares are regularized. The fact of the existence of the high-developed spinning and weaving among the local population is well-attested, but they remained within the framework of domestic manufacture. The spindels of several types with the spindle whorls (mainly, the clay ones) were used during the spinning. They weave on the looms with the vertical and the horizontal disposition of warp threads. The clay details were employed in the structure of these looms. High-quality threads and fabrics were manufactured as a result. The availability of spinning implements and tools in many funeral complexes and character of their decoration attest their religious function, that were combined with the utilitarian ones.
